Buchanan Children’s Charities Supports Child Guidance Center to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
In 2019, Buchanan Street Partners celebrated its 20th anniversary as a company, and to honor the milestone, Buchanan Children’s Charities in support of military veteran families within the community selected the Child Guidance Center and made a $5,000 donation.
Since 1967, Child Guidance Center has believed that every child should have access to effective mental health services. Today, Child Guidance Center offers comprehensive treatment services to more than 4,000 children and their family members every year across four outpatient clinics and 13 satellite service locations.Over 70% of their clients are struggling with the emotional impact of trauma such as abuse, neglect, or community violence, or are challenged with chronic symptoms of anxiety or depression. These symptoms are very real and can become life-threatening.
The Child Guidance Center leads Strong Families, Strong Children (SFSC) for Military Families, a consortium of five nonprofit partners who bring together a coordinated, community-based approach to serve Orange County veterans, military families, and their children. Trained in recognizing the unique challenges of military and veteran families, their therapists help families cope with deployment, post-deployment, reintegration and strategies focusing on strengths when facing the stress of military and post-military life.It is an innovative collaboration of agencies specializing in mental health, domestic violence prevention, housing support and basic needs, veteran legal services, and program evaluation.
