Summary

Buchanan Street Partners is a real estate investment management firm based in Newport Beach, California that focuses on acquiring commercial, multifamily, and self-storage properties as well as funding real estate construction and bridge loans. The firm has a current investment portfolio of approximately $1.8 billion spread across several institutional and high net worth investment vehicles.

Currently, we are seeking to hire a VP of Debt Investments to join our lending team at our headquarters in Newport Beach, CA. The employee will report to the SVP, Head of Debt Investments, and will be responsible for the origination and underwriting of new business for Buchanan principal lending activities, as well as the asset management of the employee’s loan portfolio. An exceptional candidate will possess:

  • 10+ years of experience originating, underwriting, structuring, and closing $10-$50 million bridge and construction loans for multifamily, industrial, retail, office, and self-storage properties in the Western U.S.
  • Proven track record of success sourcing and structuring complex real estate debt transactions.
  • An established professional network of strong sponsors and reputable brokers within Buchanan’s target markets.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and achievement-oriented personality.
  • Ambition to independently build a pipeline of new business through consistent in-person meetings including travel to out-of-state markets.
  • Experience managing the entire underwriting, due diligence, documentation and closing processes.

MULTIFAMILY REAL ESTATE ASSET MANAGEMENT/ACQUISITIONS ANALYST

Role & Responsibilities

Buchanan Street Partners, a national real estate investment manager based in Newport Beach, CA, is seeking a highly motivated Financial Analyst to join its multifamily team. This role will support asset management for the firm’s current portfolio, while also assisting with the acquisition and disposition of new and existing assets. The position’s responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with third-party property management teams to track property level performance and help execute business plan initiatives.
  • Compile and sort weekly and monthly property-level data – including rent rolls, leasing reports, and operating statements from OneSite, Yardi, and Entrata – to deliver clear and actionable insights to the asset management team.
  • Assist with in-depth review of property financials, track expenses, rent collections, and variances to assess performance against initial projections. Maintain up-to-date financial reports and monitor market trends to identify key insights.
  • Support the acquisition team in evaluating potential new acquisitions by reviewing current and historical transaction data, tracking market activity, and maintaining an up-to-date report on active deals across various markets.
  • Underwrite potential multifamily acquisitions through financial modeling in Excel. Assist in the due diligence processes and closing of new investments.
  • Assist in preparing investment memoranda by clearly summarizing investment rationale, market and property performance, execution risks, and projected returns.

Required Background & Skills

The successful applicant will have 2-4 years of directly relevant experience with a multifamily real estate investment company. A 4-year degree is required (business/economics major preferred); The selected candidate will have the following skills:

  • Multifamily Asset Management experience.
  • Experience modeling real estate investments, including “waterfall” cash flows and carried interest structures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel with an understanding of advanced formulas.
  • Working knowledge of property management systems like OneSite, Yardi, and Entrata.
  • Strong writing and presentation preparation skills
  • Team orientation, “extra mile” work ethic, firm culture contributor/carrier

VICE PRESIDENT OR SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, INVESTOR RELATIONS

Role & Responsibilities

Buchanan Street Partners, a real estate investment manager based in Newport Beach, CA, seeks a Vice President or Senior Vice President of Investor Relations. The position will report to the Executive Vice President who oversees Investor Relations. The Investor Relations team is tasked with raising capital, managing investor relationships, servicing accounts, preparing marketing materials, responding to due-diligence requests, and reporting on investments. The Investor Relations team works with HNW individuals, single family offices, multi-family offices, and RIAs.

Functions will include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with HNW individuals, single family offices, multi-family offices, and RIAs
  • Capital raising for private real estate offerings. This includes open-ended equity funds, a debt vehicle and single asset opportunities (e.g. co-investments and/or direct deals)
  • Relationship management and servicing existing investors
  • Reporting and responding to due-diligence requests

Required Background & Skills

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 years of industry experience with a proven track record of raising capital, relationship management, and reporting with HNW individuals, single family offices, multi-family offices, and/or RIAs. A 4-year degree is required (business/economics major preferred); any advanced degree or CFA/CAIA is a plus. The selected candidate will have the following skills:

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Knowledge of the real estate industry, alternative investments, and the ability to quickly develop expertise of Buchanan’s offerings. Can serve as a subject matter expert to investors
  • Global Perspective: Well-rounded individual with varied experience and a curious mind. Ability to add value to the investor experience beyond the subject matter
  • Relationship Building: Strong existing relationships with HNW individuals, single family offices, multi-family offices, and RIAs. Proven track record and process for developing new relationships
  • Salesmanship: Strong self-driven initiative to execute a process and achieve goals. Excellent communication skills, high level of organization, and a drive to outwork the competition
