Holiday Giving Update from Buchanan Children’s Charities

In the spirit of the holiday season, Buchanan Children’s Charities donated a total of $7,500 each to two charities that are special to Buchanan Street employees.

1. Pure Game

Pure Game creates programming for children that integrates a character education curriculum, leadership coaching, and sport. Their programs increase and encourage physical activity (aligned with public school physical activity standards), incentivizing attendance, introducing life skills, building character, and helps children create a positive self-image. A particular attraction for us was that this organization had a donor matching gift program allowing for our gift to be matched.

2. Spirit League

Spirit League’s mission is to create a community where athletes with developmental disabilities thrive. The League is for athletes with developmental disabilities who are physically active (ambulatory) but have difficulty keeping up with their peers. They emphasize the learning of sports fundamentals and social skills for boys and girls, ages 6-30 years, with autism or other developmental disabilities in Orange County, California. At Spirit League, it is more than just the score. For their athletes, their goals are to foster self-esteem, enhance social skills and build friendships. For their families, their goals are to strengthen relationships, provide support and develop community. The Founders, Leslie and Mike Echolds, started Spirit League as a forum for “betweener” special needs kids to play sports, make friends, socialize, and grow into adulthood. Little did they know what a need there was… or how deeply Spirit League would impact the lives of our long-term “committed” players and families.
